Formula One is back as the series heads to South Florida this week for the fifth edition of the Miami Grand Prix. It follows a break of over a month without a race.
Miami Grand Prix Schedule and Location
The 57-lap Miami Grand Prix is scheduled for Sunday, May 3, at 4 p.m. ET. A 19-lap sprint race will also take place on Saturday, May 2, at 12 p.m. ET.
The Miami International Autodrome, which hosts the race, is situated around Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. The circuit uses parking lots and private roads surrounding the stadium.
The track is 3.363 miles long, featuring 19 corners and three long straights. Drivers typically complete a lap in around a minute and a half.
Sprint Weekend Format Explained
The Miami Grand Prix is a sprint weekend for F1. This means there will be one practice session, two qualifying sessions and two races. The sprint race is a shorter version of the grand prix, with fewer points awarded and fewer laps run.
Both the sprint race and the grand prix will have full three-round qualifying sessions.
- One practice session
- Two qualifying sessions
- Two races
How to Watch the Miami Grand Prix
All F1 action this year, including the Miami Grand Prix, will be streamed on Apple TV. Viewers can watch practice, qualifying and races through the streaming service.
Apple TV offers the option of watching through the Sky Sports feed from the U.K. or the F1 TV feed. You can also watch live on-board cameras for all 22 drivers during any session.
Past Miami Grand Prix Winners
Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing won the first two races in Miami in 2022 and 2023. For the last two years, McLaren has dominated.
Lando Norris picked up his first career victory at the track in 2024, then his teammate Oscar Piastri won it in 2025. Other drivers who have finished on the podium in Miami include Charles Leclerc (’22, ’24), Carlos Sainz (’22), Sergio Perez (’23), Fernando Alonso (’23) and George Russell (’25).
New Teams and Driver Line-up
For the first time ever, there will be 22 drivers competing in the Miami Grand Prix. The addition of American-based Cadillac F1 Team will add two more drivers to the grid after 20 competed in each of the first four races in Miami.
Mercedes’ Early Season Form
Mercedes won the first three races of 2026, with Russell taking the opener in Australia before Antonelli’s triumphs in China and Japan. However, that was over a month ago, with two races in the Middle East (Saudi Arabia and Bahrain) canceled in April due to the war in Iran.
The question remains: will the Silver Arrows still have an advantage in Miami? While it’s likely, the gap might not be as large.
Teams had weeks to get a grip on the new.
