Iyo Sky missing out on a WrestleMania 42 match is among the biggest surprises surrounding this year’s show. This is especially surprising because she has been so instrumental to WWE over the last 12 months.
Sky’s Planned WrestleMania Match May Be Rescheduled
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio reported that Iyo Sky removed a challenge to Asuka for a match at WrestleMania from her social media. He heard that the match could happen at Backlash.
He added that it is no sure thing.
That the blow-off to the rivalry with Asuka being reserved for Backlash or a typical episode of Raw is a disappointment for The Genius of the Sky, The Empress of Tomorrow, and their fans.
Sky’s Strong Run in WWE
Sky entered last year’s show as women’s world champion and retained her title. She also headlined Evolution against Rhea Ripley, teamed with The Eradicator to win tag team titles, and has been engaged in a lengthy rivalry with her former Damage CTRL teammates.
Tiffany Stratton Also Misses Out
Former WWE women’s champion Tiffany Stratton is another Superstar missing this year’s show who was originally slated for it.
Ibou of Self Made Pro reported that Stratton was originally planned for a Triple Threat Match against Jordynne Grace and Giulia, presumably with the Women’s United States Championship on the line.
Much like Sky, she was an integral part of WWE’s women’s division over the last year and scored a monumental victory over Charlotte Flair in one of last year’s marquee match-ups.
She had a big return to WWE at the Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia. She was the final competitor defeated by Ripley in the Elimination Chamber, giving fans the impression that she would still have some presence on the WrestleMania card.
Instead, she is one of a handful of stars, joining Sky and former world heavyweight champion Damian Priest, who were left off this year’s card despite playing significant roles in WWE over the last year or two.
Potential Main Roster Call-Ups Post-WrestleMania
Bodyslam+ reported that Jacy Jayne, Ethan Page, Joe Hendry, and Sol Ruca are all being considered for main roster call-ups post-WrestleMania 42.
It is easy to see why Jayne and Page would be heading up. Both have conquered their respective divisions, been world champions, and accomplished pretty much all that there is to do in WWE. In the case of Jayne, she even entered this year’s Royal Rumble and enjoyed a solid run.
The same can be said for Ruca, who has captured gold, competed in major matches, and achieved everything she could, sans for a run with the top women’s title.
The surprise here is Hendry, who may be main roster-ready but feels like someone who still has plenty to give NXT, from a star power perspective.
