Yankees Sign Outfielder Randal Grichuk for Opening Day

The New York Yankees have officially signed Randal Grichuk to a major league contract and selected him to the active roster.

The move ensures Grichuk will be available for the season-opening game against the Giants in San Francisco. Grichuk’s performance in Spring Training appears to have convinced the Yankees of his potential contribution.

Grichuk’s Contract Details

Grichuk was initially signed as a non-roster invite to Spring Training. He will now earn $2.5 million on an MLB contract.

Grichuk’s Strengths and Career Stats

Grichuk has an .819 OPS against left-handed pitchers. This is viewed as a key skill for the Yankees, given their roster is full of batters who perform better against right-handed pitching.

Grichuk was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels one pick before Mike Trout in the 2009 MLB Draft. He has 212 career home runs.

  • Grichuk has played for several teams, including the St. Louis Cardinals, Toronto Blue Jays, Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Kansas City Royals.

In 2025, Grichuk played for both the Diamondbacks and Royals, hitting .228 with nine home runs in 113 games.

The Yankees will seek to maximise Grichuk’s usage, believing he can be a positive contributor to the team.
