Orlando Magic’s Wendell Carter Jr. has revealed how he and Angel Reese cope with the intense scrutiny surrounding their careers and relationship.
Carter emphasised that the pressure hasn’t altered their approach, as the Magic prepared for a Play-In match against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Blocking Out the ‘White Noise’
Carter, a defensive mainstay for Orlando, stated that he and Reese have learned to disregard the constant attention that comes with being a visible basketball couple.
Reese’s move from the Chicago Sky to the Atlanta Dream, coupled with fashion moments and brand partnerships, has kept her firmly in the spotlight.
Carter explained that creating distance from outside conversation is crucial. He told Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson that they call the outside noise the ‘white noise’.
According to Carter, he and Reese are both competitors who provide each other with advice. “Before games, after games, we tell each other what we should do night in and night out and not to pay too much attention to the outside noise,” Carter said.
He added that they are focused on building upon the foundations they have already established. “Try not to pay too much attention to it and just understand that we’ve already built our foundation in both our leagues and continue to build on it,” he said.
Reese’s Rising Profile
Reese has been highly visible recently, both on and off the court. She became the first female athlete to wear her signature sneaker on the cover of Vogue Australia, posing in her Reebok AR1 “Navy Halo” shoes.
Months prior, she walked in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, the first professional athlete to do so.
Basketball at the Heart of the Relationship
Despite Reese’s growing celebrity, Carter stressed that their relationship is rooted in basketball. They routinely discuss performances and help each other stay grounded.
Carter even joked about a hypothetical two-on-two game, featuring himself and Reese against Bam Adebayo and A’ja Wilson.
“I’d give them a couple of points,” Carter said. “We’d have to win by two, so we would win 15 to 13.”
Reese’s Other Ventures
- Reese recently moved from the Chicago Sky to the Atlanta Dream.
- She became the first female athlete to wear her own signature sneaker on the cover of Vogue Australia.
- Reese also became the first professional athlete to walk in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
Carter’s comments come as Reese remains a prominent figure. The WNBA star’s move to the Dream has shaken up the league.
