Victor Wembanyama’s dominant performance propelled the San Antonio Spurs to their ninth straight win, defeating the Chicago Bulls 129-114. Wembanyama scored a season-high 41 points and secured 16 rebounds. His performance included the third-fastest double-double since 1997-98.
Wembanyama’s Record-Breaking Double-Double
Wembanyama reached 10 points and 10 rebounds in just eight minutes and 31 seconds. He secured his 10th rebound 1:55 into the second quarter. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, this is the third-fastest double-double in the play-by-play era. Only Boban Marjanovic (8:13) in 2017 and Jonas Valanciunas (8:08) in 2025 achieved the feat faster.
Wembanyama punctuated his season-high score with a one-handed dunk in the fourth quarter. He went 17-for-27 from the field and 3-for-6 on 3-pointers. It was the 14th time this season he has scored at least 30 points.
Spurs Dominate Despite Early Challenge
The Bulls initially took a 5-2 lead with a slam by Matas Buzelis. This prompted a timeout from Spurs coach Mitch Johnson just 71 seconds into the game. San Antonio then responded with a 20-13 run, fuelled by Wembanyama’s early double-double.
San Antonio extended their lead to 29 points in the third quarter, with six players scoring in double figures. Stephon Castle contributed 21 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds.
Bulls Struggle After Ivey’s Departure
The Bulls waived Jaden Ivey earlier in the day for conduct detrimental to the team. Ivey is currently injured and did not travel with the team on their four-game road trip. Despite the news, Tre Jones scored 23 points in his first game in San Antonio since being traded to Chicago. Jones was traded as part of the deal that brought De’Aaron Fox to the Spurs. Leonard Miller added 21 points, and Collin Sexton had 20, but the Bulls lost their fourth straight game.
The Spurs have won nine consecutive games.
