Wawrinka Faces Tough Geneva Challenge Against Michelsen

Stan Wawrinka’s dramatic first-round victory at the ATP 150 in Geneva thrilled the home fans. However, he will likely face a more difficult challenge in the Round of 16 against Alex Michelsen.

Wawrinka’s Gruelling First Round

Wawrinka’s dramatic triumph over Raul Branaccio occurred in a deciding set tiebreak. Achieving that at 41 years old and in his final season as a professional was an outstanding effort. However, recovering for this match will almost certainly prove difficult.

The three-time Grand Slam champion got a day off on Tuesday, but I doubt that will be enough against Michelsen, who should be able to take advantage of his opponent’s stiffness and soreness.

Prediction: Michelsen in 2.

Other Geneva Open Match Predictions

An opening-round defeat at the Italian Open disrupted Norrie’s solid results during the clay-court swing. The Brit is the No. 3 seed in Geneva, but can expect a tough battle against Navone. Both men are physically strong and willing to work hard for victories.

Norrie is narrowly backed to grind out a success, but that is not predicted with much certainty.

Prediction: Norrie in 3.

Munar vs Comesana Preview

Munar was superb in the previous round against Nishesh Basavareddy. The Spaniard only dropped three games and dominated throughout at a high level. Comesana, a clay-court specialist, battled back from a set behind against Valentin Royer.

Despite the Argentine’s comfort on the dirt, Munar’s slightly more complete game and the momentum from his excellent performance against Basavareddy make him the more likely winner.

Prediction: Munar in 2.

Ruud Expected to Overcome Collignon

Ruud’s participation in Geneva, just a few days after his Italian Open final against Jannik Sinner and the week before the French Open, surprised many. The three-time Grand Slam runner-up usually does a good job of focusing at 250-level clay-court events and achieving good results.

Collignon can only cause an upset if Ruud is unfocused, but that does not usually happen to the Norwegian.

Prediction: Ruud in 2.

Taylor Fritz vs Alexei Popyrin is also among the matches predicted.
