A former WWE star has shared a story about Vince McMahon’s alleged plan for an intergender WrestleMania main event. The idea reportedly involved adding a man to Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair’s match.
Reggie’s Account of McMahon’s WrestleMania Pitch
In 2021, Sasha Banks vs. Bianca Belair headlined WrestleMania 37 night one. It marked only the second women’s main event in WrestleMania history. A former WWE star, Reginald the Sommelier (aka Reggie, aka Scrypts), claims that Vince McMahon pitched an idea for him to main event WrestleMania 37 in an intergender triple threat match against Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair. This revelation came during an interview on Rewind Recap Relive.
Reggie claims that McMahon was fond of his character and acrobatics. According to Reggie, “Vince was really big on me. I was a Vince guy…everything came from Vince. Vince loved me.”
The Proposed Angle: Love Story and Triple Threat
Reggie stated that Vince McMahon wanted an angle where Sasha Banks fell in love with him. McMahon envisioned a storyline where Reggie would buy Sasha a dog, and their relationship would play out weekly. The culmination of this would be Reggie announcing that the WrestleMania match was no longer a singles contest but a triple threat.
Reggie recalls the moment McMahon presented his idea to everyone. “Vince calls all of us into the office. Me, Sasha and Bianca, and we have some producers and writers there. He says, ‘This is what I’m thinking. Reggie, you buy [Sasha] a dog. She loves you, and you’re playing every week in the middle. But the thing is, you have an endgame. You will come out and announce that this is no longer a singles [match]. This is a triple threat.’ When he said that, Sasha had a look on her face, and Bianca had the same look on her face. And I’m just like, I don’t know what the hell is happening right now. I’m not gonna look at anyone. I’m not gonna say anything.”
Banks’ Resistance and the Idea Being Nixed
Sasha Banks reportedly challenged McMahon’s idea, questioning the supposed chemistry between her and Reggie. “Vince said, ‘Because Sasha and Reginald, you guys have great chemistry.’ And Sasha kept asking Vince, ‘What do you mean? What is this chemistry?’ He’s like, ‘I don’t know. It’s just chemistry!’ She’s like, ‘But what makes us have this chemistry?’ He was like, ‘I don’t know, damn it! It’s chemistry!’ We just didn’t get an answer. It was just chemistry.”
Ultimately, the idea was abandoned. Reggie acknowledged that “they would have been stupid to throw me in that match.”
The WrestleMania 37 main event proceeded as a singles match between Banks and Belair. It is considered a significant moment in WWE history.
