Veronika Erjavec has been named in Slovenia’s team for their Billie Jean King Cup qualifying tie against Spain.

The Slovenians will host Spain in Portorož on April 10th and 11th. The winner will advance to the Billie Jean King Cup finals.

Slovenia’s Full Strength Squad

Slovenia’s captain Maša Zec Peškirič has nominated five players for the tie. The team includes Kaja Juvan (92nd in the WTA rankings), Veronika Erjavec (102nd in the WTA rankings), and Tamara Zidanšek (148th in the WTA rankings). Dalila Jakupović (377th WTA) and Nika Radišić (811th WTA) are also in the squad.

Zec Peškirič expressed optimism and confidence ahead of the match.

Spain’s Team Announced

Former top player Carla Suárez Navarro will captain the Spanish team. Cristina Bucsa (31st WTA), Kaitlin Quevedo (133rd WTA), Leyre Romero Gormaz (144th WTA), Guiomar Maristany Zuleta de Reales (171st WTA) and Sara Sorribes Tormo (449th WTA) have been named in the squad.

Jessica Bouzas Maneiro (50th WTA) and Paula Badosa (106th WTA) are not in the team. Badosa was ranked as high as number two in the world in 2022.

Slovenia Aiming for Finals

Slovenia enters the tie ranked 18th in the Billie Jean King Cup standings. They progressed to this stage after a successful showing in India in November. There, they defeated the Netherlands and India.

A victory against Spain would secure Slovenia’s second ever appearance at the Billie Jean King Cup finals.

Slovenia are encouraging fans to support them in Portorož.
