Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has etched his name in IPL history, becoming the youngest player to win the Orange Cap. The RR batsman, aged just 15 years and 65 days, secured the honour with a total of 776 runs.
Sooryavanshi’s Road to the Orange Cap
Sooryavanshi’s impressive run tally included one century and five half-centuries. He also hit 63 fours and 72 sixes. His highest score was 103.
Crucially, Sooryavanshi delivered two outstanding performances during the knockout stages. He scored 97 in the Eliminator against SRH and 96 in Qualifier 2 against GT. These knocks significantly boosted his lead, proving insurmountable for his competitors.
Gill and Sudharsan Fall Short
Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan both had the chance to overtake Sooryavanshi in their final match. Gill began the match with 722 runs, while Sudharsan had 710.
However, neither player managed to capitalise. Gill was dismissed for just 10 runs, and Sudharsan scored 12. Gill finished the season with 732 runs, while Sudharsan ended with 722.
Virat Kohli, with 600 runs, faced a near-impossible task. He would have needed 176 runs in the final to challenge Sooryavanshi.
Previous Record Holder
Before Sooryavanshi, Sai Sudharsan held the record for the youngest Orange Cap winner. He won it in IPL 2025 at the age of 23 years and 231 days.
Sudharsan scored 759 runs across 15 matches. He averaged 54.21 with a strike rate of 156.17. He had one century and six half-centuries to his name.
Sooryavanshi’s achievement marks a new chapter in IPL history.
