T.Y. Hilton has announced his retirement from the NFL. His 9,691 receiving yards rank him behind only Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne in Colts history.
Hilton last played in the NFL in 2022, appearing in three games for the Dallas Cowboys. From 2012-2021, Hilton – nicknamed “The Ghost” – played for the Colts.
Hilton’s Accomplishments with the Colts
Hilton consistently torched opposing defenses with the Colts. He topped 1,000 yards five times, highlighted by hitting that mark in four consecutive seasons (2013-2016). He led the NFL with 1,448 yards in 2016 and earned Pro Bowl selections every year from 2014-2017.
The Colts selected Hilton in the third round (No. 92 overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft. They believed the dynamic playmaking ability he showed at Florida International would translate to the NFL.
Playoff Heroics Against Kansas City
In the 2013 playoffs, Hilton helped the Colts complete a remarkable Wild Card round comeback win over the Kansas City Chiefs with 224 receiving yards. This was punctuated by his go-ahead 64-yard touchdown snag with 4:21 remaining in the fourth quarter. Hilton’s 224 yards are third in NFL history for a single playoff game; the Colts’ 28-point comeback remains the second-greatest deficit to be overcome in NFL playoff history.
Return to High School Football
Hilton in December was hired as the head football coach at Miami Springs High School, his prep alma mater.
Over four seasons at FIU, Hilton caught 229 passes for 3,531 yards and scored 37 total touchdowns (24 receiving, seven rushing, six returning). Hilton in 2025 became the first football player inducted into the FIU Athletics Hall of Fame.
