Tony Finau Misses Out on Masters Qualification This Year

Tony Finau, a Utahn who has been a regular participant at the Masters Tournament, did not qualify for this year’s event.

McIlroy Leads After First Round

The 90th Masters tournament began at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia. Rory McIlroy fired a 5-under 67. He is tied with Sam Burns for the lead after the first round.

Weir’s Difficult Start

Mike Weir, the 2003 champion, had a difficult opening round. Weir shot a 9-over-par 81. He is tied for 86th entering Round 2. Weir’s round included a double-bogey on the par-4 third hole.

He also made a double on the par-4 17th and finished with a bogey on the par-4 18th. Weir did make one birdie on Thursday, carding a 4 on the par-5 13th.

Weir’s Tournament History

This is the Canadian’s 27th appearance in the Masters. When he won the Masters in 2003, the former All-American at BYU became the first left-handed major champion since Bob Charles. Charles won the British Open in 1963. Weir, 55, currently plays on the PGA Tour’s Champions Tour.

Weir teed off with Wyndham Clark and Mateo Pulcini on Friday. Clark shot a 72 on Thursday, and Pulcini matched Weir’s 81.
