Tom Davies to Leave Sheffield United at End of Season

Midfielder Tom Davies is set to leave Sheffield United at the end of the season.

The club announced the departure of the 27-year-old, who arrived at Bramall Lane in August 2023 as a free agent. Davies had previously turned down a new deal with Everton that summer.

Davies’ Time at Sheffield United

Davies made 11 appearances in all competitions for Sheffield United this season. Injury problems plagued his time with the club, limiting his appearances.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder and club officials offered their thanks to Davies. They wished him well for the future in a statement.

Background Before Blades

Davies made his debut for Everton aged 17 in May 2017. He later became the club’s youngest-ever captain at 20 years and 60 days old during an EFL Cup tie against Rotherham.

However, Davies opted to leave Everton at the end of the 2022-23 season. He only started six Premier League games across his final two campaigns with the Toffees.

Turbulent Season for Davies

Davies said he was joining a club with a “great project” when he signed a three-year contract. However, Paul Heckingbottom, the manager who signed him, was sacked in November.

Davies managed just nine appearances as the Blades finished bottom of the Premier League. He missed the first three months of last season.

He played 16 times across all competitions, including in all three of the side’s play-off games. The club sent him to Germany for treatment on a persistent calf problem in November.

Davies’ most recent start against Millwall on 31 January ended with him being substituted after 48 minutes.

Davies made just 11 league starts for the Championship side.
