The Oklahoma City Thunder have taken a 1-0 lead in their NBA Conference semi-final series against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Western Conference’s top seed, the Thunder, proved too strong, winning the first game 108-90 at home on Tuesday.
Thunder’s Offence Overwhelms Lakers
Oklahoma City Thunder produced a balanced offensive performance. Their defence restricted the Lakers to their lowest score in a play-off game since 2021.
LeBron James scored a game-high 27 points for the Lakers. Chet Holmgren led the Thunder with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the NBA’s reigning Most Valuable Player, and Ajay Mitchell each contributed 18 points for the hosts.
Lakers Coach Laments Mistakes
Lakers head coach JJ Redick acknowledged the challenge of facing the champions. “You’re playing the world champs, your margin for error in terms of mistakes is not that high,” said Redick.
He added: “[There were] just too many tonight. We’ve got to clean that up.”
Doncic’s Absence Impacts LA
LA guard Luka Doncic remained out with a hamstring injury. He could miss game two on Thursday.
The Thunder will look to extend their lead in game two, while the Lakers will aim to bounce back and level the series.
