State’s baseball team lost to Texas A&M 11-9. The loss came after State’s 18-11 win the previous night. The first two games in College Station have been very offensive.
Aggies Jump to Early Lead
The Aggies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. State kept fighting back, taking the lead or tying the game. Eventually, the lineup ran out of gas.
Texas A&M reliever Clayton Freshcorn had a lot to do with that, tossing three scoreless innings to close the game out.
Sullivan’s Offensive Showing
Noah Sullivan said, “It was another super offensive day. We gave up a lot of runs, but we did not claw back enough as an offense, so you cannot really point the finger at anyone. We have to do more on both sides.”
Sullivan finished the day with three hits and three RBI, including hitting his ninth and tenth home runs of the season. “The starter was throwing a lot of change ups so I just sat on one and got a good swing on it and put it in the air,” Sullivan said. “On the second one, he threw a fastball in the dirt and then put one over the middle of the plate, and good things happened.”
Weather a Factor in Offensive Output
Neither pitching staff has been stellar, but the weather is playing a role. Every flag in Blue Bell Park has been blowing straight out the entire time the two teams have been playing. Sullivan detailed whether that will affect anything. “It does not really change a whole lot,” Sullivan explained. “We have to do a good job of minimizing runs on the mound and with defense. On the offensive side of things, we just have to take advantage of more opportunities.”
Looking to Secure the Series
State came to College Station needing to get at least one win, and they have that, but this team is striving for more. State will do battle with A&M. They are looking to take its third SEC series on the road this season and secure its 17th conference win and 40th win of the season.
“We just need to keep doing what we are doing. We always bounce back well, and it is the last regular season game of the year, so we will be ready to go,” Sullivan said of the game. “All of the work we did yesterday and today facing their bullpen guys will help us out in game three. It will be good to face some of their less-trusted arms. It will be a good day.”
