Sunrisers Hyderabad posted 201 for 9 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, with Ishan Kishan scoring 80 off 38 balls and Aniket Verma contributing 43 off 17.
Kishan’s Captaincy Debut and Verma’s Finish
Ishan Kishan marked his IPL captaincy debut with 80 off 38 balls. Aniket Verma applied the finishing touches with an equally electric 43 off 17. SRH reached 201 for 9 after RCB had inserted them.
Aniket Verma sent seven of his 17 balls to the boundary. Kishan crashed 13 boundaries off 38 balls. There was precious little from everyone else after RCB had inserted SRH.
Duffy’s Debut and Fielding Efforts
New Zealand seamer Jacob Duffy, on IPL debut, took out Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Nitish Kumar Reddy in his first three overs in the powerplay. He bowled four on the trot, coming away with 4-0-22-3, before he was replaced by Impact sub Devdutt Padikkal, who took three catches.
Phil Salt claimed two catches, including a one-handed screamer that stopped Kishan on 80 in the 16th over. Aniket then took charge at the death, pushing SRH just past 200.
Payne’s Role and SRH’s Defence
David Payne, who had replaced Head as SRH’s Impact Sub, scored an unbeaten 6 off 5 balls. He will have a bigger role to play with the ball on IPL debut if SRH are to defend 201.
