Former athlete Steve Cram has backed a running group in Worcester set up to boost mental health. He recently joined Worcester’s Rave Run Club for one of their events.
Rave Culture Meets Running
Worcester’s Rave Run Club was created by Tom Adams. The club mixes rave culture and exercise. Adams, 44, leads runners with a 15kg speaker on his back, playing dance and party music.
The first meet up in November drew about 70 participants. Now, the group has grown to 200 following the 5km route.
Cram Joins the Fun
Cram participated on Sunday night. He described the Rave Run Club as “a crazy bunch, it was great fun”.
Cram said it was a fun way to bring people together. He added, “I was able to dig out stuff I don’t normally wear, the bright neon coloured clothing and I really enjoyed it.”
“It highlights how running has become a really good social tool for people to come together – the running’s almost become the secondary bit of it.”
Adams said Cram thoroughly enjoyed the event. He is proud and pleased of what they have created in Worcester.
Worcester City Runs Return
Cram is also behind the Worcester City Runs. The event attracts thousands of runners and will return to the city on 13 September.
