Stephen Curry will remain out for the Golden State Warriors’ next two games due to a knee issue.
The star guard’s absence will stretch to at least 25 consecutive games, according to sources. Curry’s return to the court is uncertain as the team’s lead medical decision-maker remains cautious about his right knee.
Curry’s Return Timeline in Doubt
Curry has been increasing his court work in recent weeks. However, he has not yet been cleared for a 5-on-5 scrimmage.
Despite setbacks, Curry hopes to return late in the regular season. He will spend the next week attempting to ramp up his court work and gain clearance to scrimmage.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr has indicated that time is running out for Curry to return. Kerr stated that Curry needs to play some games before the play-in game. “We need to give him a runway if this is going to work. And we are running out of games. That’s fair to say,” Kerr said.
Warriors’ Struggles Without Curry
The Warriors have struggled without Curry. They have gone 8-15 in his absence, falling to 35-38 overall.
This record has placed them in the 10th seed in the Western Conference. The team has also lost Jimmy Butler III and Moses Moody to season-ending knee injuries.
There have been internal discussions about whether bringing Curry back is worth it. This is due to what has felt like a doomed season.
Curry’s Determination to Return
Curry remains motivated to return to the court. He has experienced several setbacks since initially leaving the lineup on Jan. 30 due to “runner’s knee.”
Multiple MRIs have ruled out structural damage. However, pain and swelling have persisted.
Upcoming Games Curry Will Miss
Curry will miss Friday night’s home game against the Washington Wizards and Sunday’s road contest at the Denver Nuggets. The Warriors play again Wednesday at home on ESPN against the San Antonio Spurs.
The regular season ends April 12. The Warriors are locked into the play-in bracket.
Kerr said, “We’re not bringing him back [only] for the play-in game”.
