St. Thomas Defeat SDSU in Summit League Tournament

St. Thomas defeated SDSU 80-67 in the Summit League Tournament quarterfinals. The loss brings an end to SDSU’s season. SDSU’s conference record concludes at 7-10.

Tommies Take Control in Second Half

The first half saw both teams shooting over 45%. St. Thomas led 39-37 at halftime, after a back and forth contest.

The pace favoured St. Thomas, as they began to pull away in the second half. Ben Oosterbaan scored eight straight points for St. Thomas, building a 14-point lead. SDSU managed to cut the lead back to single digits, but could not overcome the deficit.

St. Thomas shot 52.4% in the second 20 minutes. SDSU only hit 29.4% of their shots, including 2-of-19 from deep.

Key Performances for St. Thomas

Oosterbaan and Nolan Minessale combined for 45 points. Oosterbaan had a career-high 23 points, shooting 5-of-8 from 3-point land. Minessale scored 22 points on 7-for-12 shooting.

Jaden Jackson paced SDSU with 16 points. Damon Wilkinson and Joe Sayler each chipped in 13 points.

What’s Next for St. Thomas

St. Thomas will now play in the semifinals on Saturday night. They will play either North Dakota or Denver around 9:30 p.m. SDSU finishes the season with a 14-18 record.
