Sorana Cirstea Advances at WTA Rome After First Set Win

Sorana Cîrstea has made a positive start at the WTA Rome tournament, winning her first set in the second round.

Cirstea’s Solid Start Against Maria

Sorana Cîrstea began her match against Tatjana Maria in the second round at Rome excellently. The Romanian player won the first set 6-2 in just 27 minutes.

Cîrstea, seeded 26th, will face Tatjana Maria, ranked 54th in the world.

Cîrstea has had very good performances at Linz and Rouen this year and holds a 21-8 record this season. Cîrstea has a 5-1 lead over Maria in head-to-head matches, winning both encounters on clay without dropping a set.

Mirra Andreeva also had a dominant victory, overcoming Antonia Ruzic 6-1, 6-0 in just over an hour of play.

Elsewhere in the WTA Rome tournament, Elise Mertens, the 21st seed, defeated Panna Udvardy 6-4, 6-2. Cristina Bucse from Spain was eliminated by Qinwen Zheng from China.

Men’s Matches at ATP Rome

Terence Atmane surprised Zizou Bergs, winning 6-3, 6-4. Alexei Popyrin defeated Matteo Berrettini 6-2, 6-3, in an hour and a half.

Aryna Sabalenka and Barbora Krejcikova are scheduled to face off in the last match of the day.
