Sevilla are set to face Atlético Madrid, with both teams making changes to their lineups. Sevilla manager García Plaza has included six academy players in his starting eleven, seeking to inject positive energy and a fresh mindset into the team. Atlético Madrid have introduced ten changes, including four academy players: Boñar, Dani Martínez, Julio Díaz and Rayane. Only Musso remains from the match against Barcelona.
Sevilla’s Mindset
Kike Salas of Sevilla acknowledged the difficult situation the team is in, but stressed the importance of relying on themselves. “It’s a complicated situation, but we depend on ourselves,” Salas stated. “We have a great opportunity to add here with our people and we are going for all of it.” He also appealed to the fans for unity. “We understand the fans, because they suffer a lot, but we have to all go hand in hand. It’s the only way to get it forward. We are going to give everything on the field and demonstrate it with results and that they are supporting us.”
García Plaza acknowledged the challenge, saying, “You debut at home with illusion, but the responsibility is enormous. We are prepared for the match and we have to develop it and get three vital points for us.” He added, “When you arrive at a place with the situation we are in and with what there is, you try to transmit illusion and desire. But I have to maintain seriousness. I focus on the match, on the boys competing well.”
Atlético’s Approach
Atlético’s assistant coach, Nelson Vivas, commented on Sevilla’s current form. “It is not a comfortable circumstance. Sevilla is a great institution, which has competed for a place in Champions with us other years. Now they are in a different situation, but it is still a very tough rival.”
Vivas also highlighted the importance of youth players and striker Sorloth. “The debut for every player is a special day. But not only to be seen in the initial formation, but in the development of the 90 minutes. They are kids with whom we train every day and we trust them.” About Sorloth, Vivas said, “He is one of our references today together with those who have more experience. We know the circumstances in which Sevilla finds itself and that is one more ingredient in the match. But we trust in the offensive and defensive plan that we have developed.”
Sevilla’s New Faces
García Plaza has included Castrín, Agoumé, Manu Bueno and Isaac Romero in Sevilla’s starting eleven.
Atlético’s Perspective on Sevilla
Salas recognised the quality of Atlético’s squad, even with rotations. “They have a great squad, even if they make rotations. Sorloth has many goals. Today they will go all out for the victory.” García Plaza echoed this sentiment. “They have the Champions League match and the Copa final. But if you tell me that Sorloth or Baena… They are all a great team. Therefore, respecting Barcelona a lot, they are almost semi-finalists. They have a result that brings them very close to the semi-finals.”
García Plaza is hoping the home crowd will play their part. “We have to give to the fans. When I came as a visitor here, I said: ‘As the fans are plugged in…’ This is one of the most incredible stadiums and if we transmit it to the stands, they are going to return it. And when they return, there is magic here.”
Sevilla are aiming to give their all on the pitch and show their fans that they are worthy of support.
