The Seattle Mariners have announced a change to their pitching options.
Hoppe Joins the Major League Roster
Right-hander Alex Hoppe has been recalled from Triple-A Tacoma. The 27-year-old is yet to feature in a major league game.
Hoppe’s stats for Tacoma this season show promise. Across eight innings, he allowed only one unearned run and recorded 12 strikeouts against three walks in eight games.
The Mariners acquired Hoppe on Nov. 18, 2025, from the Boston Red Sox. The deal saw minor league catcher Luke Heyman go the other way.
Hoppe was a sixth-round pick. Throughout his minor league career with both the Red Sox and Mariners, he has a 7-14 record with a 4.55 ERA. He also recorded 91 walks and 215 strikeouts in 131 relief appearances.
Legumina Designated for Assignment
Casey Legumina, a right-hander, has been designated for assignment by Seattle. The 28-year-old made eight appearances for the team this season.
Legumina’s record stands at 0-1 with a 4.63 ERA. He recorded three walks and nine strikeouts.
Legumina pitched during Monday night’s 6-4 defeat to the Athletics. He conceded three runs and was handed the loss.
An eight-round pick in the 2019 MLB draft, Legumina has played in 73 major league games. His overall record is 5-7 with a 5.83 ERA, with 39 walks and 82 strikeouts across 83 1/3 innings.
The Mariners will look to Hoppe to bolster their pitching options, while Legumina’s future with the team is now uncertain.
