Sandat Aims for Promotion ‘Icing’ with Hornchurch

Former Southend United striker Henry Sandat has his sights set on promotion with Hornchurch, describing it as the ‘icing on the cake’ for their season.

Hornchurch are preparing to host Torquay United in the National League South play-off final this weekend.

Sandat’s Perspective on Hornchurch’s Season

Sandat reflected on Hornchurch’s season, stating, “I think if you had said to us at the start of the year you would finish second and get to a play-off final we would have bitten your hand of for it so I think what we’ve achieved is unbelievable regardless of what happens.”

However, he added, “Of course the promotion would be the icing on top and we’ve come this far so we want to go the full way and win it now.”

Hornchurch reached the final after a 2-0 victory over Weston-super-Mare in the semi-final, with Sandat contributing a goal.

Sandat’s Personal Success

Sandat expressed his satisfaction with his individual performance this season. “Individually this is the best season I’ve had,” said Sandat.

“I’ve actually had a run of games. I’ve played almost 40 games, scored 11 goals and got seven assists.”

He added, “I think I needed to just go and play a consistent run of games. The last year in football was the worst it’s ever been for me personally, changing clubs and not playing it was rubbish. But I’m so grateful to Hornchurch for believing in me and I’ve produced this season.”

The Challenge Against Torquay

Hornchurch finished the season in second place in the National League South standings, trailing champions Worthing by three points.

Looking ahead to the final, Sandat acknowledged the challenge posed by Torquay. “Obviously I’ve played Torquay a few times in this league and the National League and they’re probably a club similar to Southend in terms of with their fanbase they definitely shouldn’t be where they are,” said Sandat.

He added, “But we have a job to do and hopefully we can be the ones going up. Torquay are a good side, they’ve got real quality going forward as do we so it will be a very good game.”

“I don’t think anyone would have said Hornchurch have a chance of playing National League football next year. Full credit to the players and staff because we’ve built a real togetherness over the season and what we’ve achieved is brilliant.”

The Significance of Promotion

Sandat emphasized the significance of a potential promotion for Hornchurch. “I think it would be unbelievable,” said Sandat.
