San Diego State Faces UNLV in Mountain West Showdown

San Diego State will conclude its regular season with a home game against UNLV. The Aztecs are 19-10 overall and 13-6 in Mountain West play. UNLV holds a 16-14 record overall, with 11-8 in the conference.

Series History Favours SDSU

SDSU leads the all-time series 45-40 against UNLV. However, the Aztecs have lost three of the last five matchups. This includes a 77-76 overtime defeat at Viejas Arena last year. SDSU won the first meeting this season 82-71 in Las Vegas on Jan. 24.

UNLV’s Player to Watch

Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn is a key player for UNLV, averaging 20.6 points and leading the conference in scoring. During a nine-game stretch, he averaged 29.7 points, including 42 against Nevada. Kimani Hamilton (12.7) and Tyrin Jones (11.5) both average in double figures for the Rebels.

Howie Fleming Jr. is fifth in the conference in rebounding (6.2) and sixth in assists (3.9). Jones leads the conference in blocks at 2.0 per game.

Aztecs Aim for High Tournament Seed

San Diego State is still in contention for a share of the regular-season Mountain West title. However, they cannot secure the No. 1 seed. A win against UNLV would likely give them the No. 2 or 3 seed. A loss would likely result in the No. 4 seed if they finish tied for third with Grand Canyon.

Coach Brian Dutcher hopes to have a full roster available. Elzie Harrington and Reese Dixon-Waters did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday.

Kenpom Prediction

Kenpom projects an 83-72 victory for the Aztecs. UNLV is currently ranked 107 in Kenpom, while the Aztecs are 44.

Mountain West Tournament Looming

The Mountain West Tournament begins on Thursday in Las Vegas. The Aztecs’ performance against UNLV will determine their seeding and schedule for the tournament.
