Samsunspor Exit Conference League Despite Win

Samsunspor have exited the UEFA Conference League, despite securing a 1-0 victory against Rayo Vallecano in the second leg of their tie. The Turkish team were looking to overturn a 3-1 deficit from the first leg. Their efforts ultimately proved unsuccessful, as they bowed out in the round of 16 with a 3-2 aggregate score.

Ndiaye’s Goal Provides Hope

The only goal of the match came in the 65th minute, with Cherif Ndiaye finding the net for Samsunspor. Marius Mouandilmadji provided the assist. Samsunspor then searched for a second goal to force extra time. However, they were unable to break through again.

The first half ended goalless. Garcia had an early chance for Rayo Vallecano, his shot from outside the box going just over the bar in the 2nd minute. In the 10th minute, Okan Kocuk, Samsunspor’s goalkeeper, saved from De Frutos. Mouandilmadji had a chance in the 13th minute. His shot went over the bar. Mouandilmadji again went close in added time at the end of the first half, but his shot went wide.

Late Drama and Frustration

The tempo of the match increased as both teams pushed. Four minutes of added time were signalled at the end of the second half. Zeki Yavru received two yellow cards in quick succession in the 90+3 minute for protesting from the bench. Despite the late stages of the game, no further goals were scored.

Samsunspor said goodbye to the tournament with a victory.
