Ryan Garcia Names Boxing’s Most Overrated Fighter

Ryan Garcia has identified the boxer he considers to be the most overrated, claiming the hype surrounding him is ‘premature’.

Garcia, the WBC welterweight world champion, made the comments on the Creators Think Podcast.

Garcia’s Choice for Overrated Boxer

When asked to name the most ‘horribly overrated’ active boxer, Garcia did not choose Devin Haney, despite past criticisms of him.

Instead, Garcia pointed to Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, who recently moved up to the super-welterweight division.

“Horribly overrated? Today, I would say ‘Boots’ Ennis. I know that I have said that before on a stream and got some hate but, at this point where they are hyping up like he is the next everything, I think it’s a little premature and [that he is] overrated.”

Ennis’s Recent Career Moves

Ennis previously held the unified IBF and WBA welterweight world titles.

He transitioned to 154lbs late last year, securing a knockout victory against Uisma Lima in his debut in the division.

Ennis is set to challenge Xander Zayas for the unified WBA and WBO super-welterweight titles at the end of June.

Garcia’s Trajectory and Potential Future Matchups

Garcia captured the WBC Interim lightweight title by knocking out Luke Campbell in January 2021.

In February, Garcia defeated Mario Barrios, marking his return and earning him plaudits.

Garcia is being linked to a rematch with Devin Haney.

There is a possibility that Garcia, who is 27, will move up to 154lbs in the future.

Should Garcia move to 154lbs, a potential bout against Ennis could arise, allowing Ennis to respond to Garcia’s comments in the ring.
