Rublev Faces Mensik in French Open Round Four Clash

Andrey Rublev is set to face Jakub Mensik in the fourth round of the French Open.

Mensik is making his first appearance in the fourth round of the French Open, while it is familiar territory for Rublev.

Mensik’s Road to Round Four

Jakub Mensik, ranked 26th, upset Alex de Minaur in his previous match, coming back from a set down to win 0-6 6-2 6-2 6-3.

Mensik has shown resilience at Roland-Garros, bouncing back from adversity in spectacular fashion in round three.

The 20-year-old converted seven break points en route to victory.

He aims to reach the quarter-finals for the first time. It is only the second time he has reached this stage of a Grand Slam.

The last time he competed in the fourth round of a major tournament, he had to withdraw from his match with Novak Djokovic due to a muscle injury.

Mensik’s first serve winning percentage against de Minaur was 67%, lower than the 90% and 75% he recorded in the first two matches.

Mensik has hit 23 aces but also registered 20 double faults at Roland-Garros in 2026.

Rublev’s Experience at Roland-Garros

Andrey Rublev won a narrow three-set outing versus Nuno Borges 7-5 7-6 (7-2) 7-6 (7-2).

Rublev is a familiar face in the last 16 or beyond at a Grand Slam singles event, with Sunday marking his fourth time competing in round four of the French Open.

The Russian has advanced beyond this stage on two occasions.

He has lost his previous four appearances in the last 16 of a singles Grand Slam tournament, including a defeat to Jannik Sinner in the 2025 French Open.

Rublev has delivered in the clutch moments at Roland-Garros this year, winning all three of his tiebreak sets, two of which were in round three.

The 10-time Grand Slam singles quarter-finalist has only captured one of his last 13 fourth-round sets in a major tournament, losing in four sets to Carlos Alcaraz at last year’s Wimbledon event.

He has hit 23 aces in his three matches thus far, while registering nine double faults.

Head-to-Head Record Favours Mensik

The head-to-head record between Mensik and Rublev favours Mensik.

  • Doha Open (2024) – Quarter-finals: Mensik wins 6-4 7-6
  • ATP Masters Shanghai (2024) – Round of 64: Mensik wins 6-7 6-4 6-3

In Doha two years ago, Mensik’s serve was on point throughout the match as he registered 10 aces and won 81% of his first-serve points.

Mensik will be seeking some redemption on Sunday.
