The Royals defeated Minnesota 13-9 after a strong offensive performance on a night impacted by weather. The bottom third of the Kansas City lineup led the charge for the second consecutive game, delivering a particularly impressive showing.
Key Offensive Plays
Scoring began in the second inning with two outs. Jac Caglianone doubled to center. Collins followed with another double, scoring Caglianone. Kyle Isbel then singled to bring Collins home. Isbel stole second, and Maikel Garcia hit a ball that was difficult to field, scoring the third run of the inning.
Another run scored in the 3rd when a popup was lost in the fog by Royce Lewis. In the 4th, Caglianone, Collins, and Isbel all reached base again, and Garcia hit a sac fly. The rain intensified in the 6th as KC batted 11. Walks, HBPs, errors, and a grand slam by Jonathan India brought seven more runs.
Jac, Isaac, and Kyle combined for eight hits in 11 at-bats with a walk and HBP, reaching base in all but three of their 14 plate appearances. Isbel added a solo home run in the 7th. All of the starting nine reached base, with Carter Jensen contributing a single in the 8th.
Pitching Performances and Challenges
Noah Cameron started strong, especially in the first two innings. He threw a first pitch strike to each of the first six Minnesota batters. He appeared to lose some command in the 4th and 5th innings but managed to get through the 5th. Cameron’s final line included 5IP, 4H, 1BB, 1ER, and 5K.
Daniel Lynch, Alex Lange, and Brady Falter struggled with their command. Lynch gave up three runs in the 7th, Lange two in the 8th before Cruz finished the inning, and Falter three in the 9th. There were a number of walks and hit batters from both teams, attributed to the wet baseballs. Lucas Erceg came in to secure the save.
ABS Challenges and Game Impact
There were nine ABS challenges, and the calls were overturned in all but two challenges by the Royals. Since the game was not very close, none of these mattered all that much in the end.
Royals Aim for Series Sweep
The Royals are now 3-2 on the year. They are above .500 and going for sweep against the Twins tomorrow. There is a bit more rain in the forecast again.
