Wayne Rooney has publicly backed Michael Carrick for the permanent Manchester United manager’s job.
Rooney stated he knew this outcome was possible with Carrick, citing his character and personality as key factors. He believes Carrick brought a calm approach and provided the players with much-needed support.
Carrick’s Impact and Rooney’s Endorsement
Rooney told BBC Radio 5 Live that Carrick should “100%” get the job. He highlighted the improved quality and unity within the team under Carrick’s leadership. “We have seen the players play with more quality, more together as a team, and they look like a very strong team. Why would you change?” Rooney asked.
Since Carrick took over as head coach in January, the team has secured seven wins in nine games. Only a few managers have a better record of home wins at the start of their Premier League career.
Carrick Remains Focused Amidst Speculation
Carrick addressed Rooney’s comments, but maintains his focus remains on the team’s upcoming fixtures. He confirmed discussions with chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox following the win against Aston Villa. Carrick stated his priority is Friday’s trip to Bournemouth.
Carrick said he isn’t distracted by external pressures. “It’s only noise if you listen to it. It doesn’t affect me one bit, to be honest.”
Carrick said he is enjoying his current role, but remains calm about the future. “I’m in this position at the moment, doing the best I can, and I’m loving it, obviously,” Carrick said. “But whatever’s going to happen is going happen. It’s all pretty calm.”
Fernandes Reaches Milestone in Villa Win
Manchester United defeated Aston Villa 3-1 at Old Trafford. This victory solidified their third-place position in the Premier League.
Bruno Fernandes played a key role in the win, creating the first two goals. His corner was headed in by Casemiro for the opening goal, and he later assisted Matheus Cunha for United’s second.
Fernandes has now recorded 100 assists in all competitions for United. He is only the fourth player to reach this milestone in the Premier League era, joining Rooney, Ryan Giggs, and David Beckham.
- Fernandes has 100 assists for Man Utd
- He joins Rooney, Giggs and Beckham in achieving this
- His 16 league assists this term have eclipsed Beckham’s tally of 15 from 1999-2000
Fernandes’ 16 league assists this season surpass Beckham’s previous high of 15 from the 1999-2000 campaign, making it the most by any United player in a single season.
United chiefs want to assess all options before making a decision in the summer.
