Rommens Scores First Rangers Goal in St Mirren Clash

Rangers faced St Mirren in a game played amidst torrential rain and strong, swirling winds.

The conditions made it difficult for the players.

Rommens Opens Scoring for Rangers

Tuur Rommens scored his first goal for Rangers. It was his first goal since 2024.

Nicolas Raskin clipped the ball behind the St Mirren back three. Rommens ghosted in at the back post to knock it home from close range.

It was Rangers’ first real opportunity. Steven Thompson, former Rangers & St Mirren striker, said the ball in was sensational, into a really dangerous area, and it looked far too easy for Rommens to ghost in for the simplest of finishes.

Andy Halliday, former Rangers midfielder, noted it was a great delivery from Rommens.

St Mirren’s Missed Chances

St Mirren’s Jayden Richardson suffered a head cut after a collision with teammate Alex Gogic.

Mikey Moore was through on goal, but Alex Gogic slid in to knock it behind. Gogic was bleeding from his head again.

St Mirren won a free-kick on the touchline about 20 yards out. Alex Gogic headed well wide.

Striker Dan Nlundulu headed straight at goalkeeper Jack Butland.

Rangers Press for More Goals

Rangers took the direct approach. Raskin delivered an unbelievable ball on his weaker left foot, clipping it in behind the back three.

Rommens received the ball from a corner and found a striker with a neat cross, but the striker sidefoots wide from only four yards out.

Ryan Naderi prodded the ball between goalkeeper Shamal George’s legs. However, there was not enough power from the Rangers striker to take it over the goalline and the ball was cleared from in front of goal.

Rangers had six corners, but they didn’t manage to test Shamal George.

Andy Halliday said Rangers’ attacking players have to do a lot more after seeing Danny Rohl’s fury at Youssef Chermiti giving the ball away.

Final Observation

That’s Tuur Rommens’ first goal since the Belgian left-back joined Rangers from Westerlo in January. Indeed, it is only the 22-year-old’s third senior goal.
