Rhys Williams to Leave Liverpool After 15 Years at the Club

Rhys Williams is set to leave Liverpool upon the expiration of his contract at the end of June.

The centre-half departs after rising through the Academy system.

Academy Graduate’s Liverpool Career

Williams has been on the club’s books since U10 level. He made 19 appearances for the senior team after progressing through the ranks.

He reflected on his time at the club in a social media post: “From signing as a nine-year-old boy, to leaving as a 25-year-old man. This club has let me fulfil things that dreams are made of.

“It’s been an honour to wear this shirt, rub shoulders with legends and play for the greatest set of fans in the world.

“Thank you to all the players, staff and everyone who’s had a part to play along the way.

“I will be forever grateful to have represented this club. Thank you, Liverpool. YNWA.”

Breakthrough and Loan Spells

Williams was a member of the FA Youth Cup-winning squad in 2019.

He then broke into Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool side the following year.

Williams debuted in September 2020, starting in a 7-2 victory at Lincoln City in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

As injuries impacted the defence, he played in 18 more matches during the 2020-21 campaign.

He helped the Reds secure Champions League qualification with a third-placed finish in the Premier League.

During his time as a Red, Williams also had loan spells at:

  • Kidderminster Harriers
  • Swansea City
  • Blackpool
  • Aberdeen
  • Port Vale
  • Morecambe

Liverpool FC has thanked Rhys for his contribution and wished him well for the future.
