Cincinnati Reds’ Hunter Greene to be Evaluated for Elbow Stiffness

Reds ace right-hander Hunter Greene is set to be evaluated for stiffness in his right elbow. Manager Terry Francona announced the news on Wednesday.

Greene’s Last Outing

Greene’s most recent start was on Saturday. He faced the Brewers, managing to record just three outs. During that brief outing, he allowed four earned runs on five hits and a walk, throwing 37 pitches (21 strikes).

Previous Injury History

The 26-year-old was an All-Star in 2024. He also had a strong season last year, posting a 2.76 ERA in 19 starts. However, his season was interrupted twice by a right groin strain. The second instance placed him on the injured list for 2 1/2 months.

Injuries have been a recurring theme throughout his career.

  • In ’24, a bruised right elbow sidelined Greene for five weeks on the IL in the second half of the season.
  • Right hip pain sidelined him for two months in 2023.
  • His 2022 debut season was interrupted by a shoulder strain.

He also underwent Tommy John surgery as a prospect in 2019.

Looking Ahead

The Reds will be hoping that the stiffness is not a serious issue, given Greene’s history with injuries.
