Red Sox vs Tigers: Rain Delay at Comerica Park

The Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox encountered a rain delay in the opener of a three-game series at Comerica Park.

The game started at 6:10 p.m., 30 minutes ahead of schedule, in an attempt to avoid the rain, but the rain came anyway.

The grounds crew rolled the tarp onto the field at 8:15 p.m.

Game Interrupted in the Eighth Inning

The Tigers and Boston Red Sox entered a rain delay in the top of the eighth inning.

The game resumed after a 28-minute delay.

At the time of the delay, the Tigers were losing 5-2 to the Red Sox after allowing five runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Pitching Changes for the Tigers

Tarik Skubal was supposed to start, but he landed on the injured list with loose bodies in his left elbow, requiring surgery.

Instead of Skubal, right-hander Ty Madden pitched as a bulk reliever in his arrival from Triple-A Toledo – following left-handed reliever Tyler Holton, who completed the first inning.

Madden delivered five scoreless innings out of the bullpen, only for right-handed reliever Ricky Vanasco and left-handed reliever Enmanuel De Jesus to implode in the seventh inning.

Tigers’ Season Record

The Tigers entered with an 18-17 record.
