Marcus Rashford has seemingly found his feet at Barcelona, with manager Hansi Flick acknowledging the player’s adaptation to the team. This comes amidst swirling rumours regarding Rashford’s long-term future and a potential permanent move to the Catalan club. The England international joined Barca on a season-long loan from Manchester United last summer.
Rashford’s Impact on Barcelona
Rashford has made a noticeable impact, contributing 11 goals and 13 assists in 40 appearances across all competitions. His contributions have aided Barcelona’s push in La Liga. Most recently, Rashford netted the opening goal in a 2-1 victory against Atletico Madrid.
Giuliano Simeone initially put Atletico ahead, but Rashford equalised. Robert Lewandowski then secured the win with a goal three minutes from time.
Flick’s Praise and Future Uncertainty
Despite Rashford’s positive performances, it remains unclear whether Barcelona will exercise their £26 million option to buy him at the end of the season. Flick has publicly praised Rashford, highlighting his improved defensive work. “It’s not just about pressing with the ball, you also have to defend, but he’s (Rashford) doing things well and has adapted,” Flick stated.
The manager also hinted at another start for Rashford. Flick had previously expressed his satisfaction with Rashford’s contributions following the Atletico Madrid match. “I’m very happy with Marcus,” the German said. “He has shown his quality and he scored an important goal. I can’t say anything about his future, we have to focus on the matches until the end of the season.”
Rashford’s Perspective on a Permanent Move
Rashford’s time at Manchester United appears to have come to an end some time ago. He last played for United in December 2024. Before his move to Barcelona, he spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa and was made to train separately from United’s first-team squad.

Rashford has expressed a clear desire to secure a permanent move to Barcelona. Speaking to ESPN at the end of 2025, Rashford confirmed his intentions. “Oh yeah, for sure,” the forward replied when asked if he wanted to stay at the Catalan club. “I’m enjoying this football club and I think for anybody who loves football.”
