Pete Fairbanks’ Start Cut Short as He Leaves Marlins for Child’s Birth

Pete Fairbanks was granted a start by the Miami Marlins on Sunday. The start allowed Fairbanks to get home for the birth of his child.

The Marlins planned to put Fairbanks on paternity leave because his wife was set to have labor induced Monday morning.

Fairbanks’ Brief Outing Against Yankees

Fairbanks threw a 27-pitch first inning against the Yankees. Ben Rice hit a three-run homer which put New York ahead 3-1.

Andrew Nardi, a left-hander, relieved Fairbanks in the bottom of the second.

Paddack Delayed by Rain and Fairbanks’ Start

The Marlins said Fairbanks was starting instead of Chris Paddack around the scheduled 1:35 p.m. start time. The game began after a 3-hour, 35-minute rain delay.

Fairbanks, a 32-year-old right-hander, had last pitched Tuesday. His previous start was on Sept. 21, 2020, when he pitched 1⅔ innings for Tampa Bay at the New York Mets.
