Moses Itauma defeated Jermaine Franklin with a fifth-round stoppage at Manchester’s Co-op Live Arena. The 21-year-old landed heavy power punches, eventually knocking Franklin out cold with an uppercut. Itauma’s promoter, Frank Warren, said the Chatham heavyweight will be back out in July.

Charles Leclerc has criticised Formula 1’s new qualifying rules after a mistake during qualifying at the Japanese Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver qualified fourth at Suzuka, more than 0.6 seconds behind Kimi Antonelli. Leclerc said the new rules no longer reward risk taking, and instead put an emphasis on consistency from lap to lap.
Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson missed out on an ice dance bronze medal at the World Figure Skating Championships after being deducted two points. British Ice Skating has appealed the decision, calling the deduction “incorrect”. Fear and Gibson finished fourth, 0.22 of a point behind Americans Emilea Zingas and Vadym Kolesnik.
