Packers Bolster Defence with Javon Hargrave Signing

The Green Bay Packers have secured Javon Hargrave on a two-year deal, providing a boost to their defensive line. Agent Drew Rosenhaus confirmed that Hargrave agreed to a $23 million contract, with $13 million guaranteed in the first year.

Hargrave was officially released by the Vikings on Wednesday.

Hargrave Reunites with Gannon

The Packers were already short on defensive linemen. This was before they traded Colby Wooden to the Indianapolis Colts for Zaire Franklin earlier this week.

Hargrave’s arrival gives Jonathan Gannon a player he knows well. Gannon, previously the Arizona Cardinals head coach, was the Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator for two seasons while Hargrave played for the Eagles. During those two years (2021-22), Hargrave recorded 18.5 sacks and 104 tackles.

Gannon is entering his first season as the Packers’ defensive coordinator, taking over from Jeff Hafley, who became the Miami Dolphins head coach.

Hargrave’s Career So Far

Hargrave signed a two-year contract with the Vikings last year. This was after recovering from a torn right triceps that cut short his 2024 season with the San Francisco 49ers.

He started 15 games at age 33. However, he only managed 3.5 sacks and was set to earn $15 million with a cap number of $21.7 million for the 2026 season.

Hargrave was drafted in the third round of the 2016 draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He has 49 sacks in 10 seasons and has been selected to two Pro Bowls.
