Olly Murs was in tears after completing his Soccer Aid challenge, surpassing his expectations. The 42-year-old singer-songwriter finished his gruelling five-day Into The Unknown challenge at the London Stadium in Stratford, east London.
Murs undertook a 249-mile journey from Manchester to London by running, cycling and rowing. The route for each day was revealed just hours before he set off.
Overwhelming Support and Gratitude
Murs has raised over £830,000 for Unicef, which organises Soccer Aid. Speaking to ITV’s This Morning, Murs expressed his gratitude to the public for their donations, saying their support kept him going.
Murs said he was in bits and that the run from central London to the stadium was painful. He pushed through by reminding himself he had to get to the end.
He thanked everyone, adding that the donations had been amazing and surpassed his expectations. Murs said he was proud to be given the opportunity from Soccer Aid to raise that amount of money. He highlighted Soccer Aid’s continued work with Unicef to help children around the world.
The Gruelling Challenge
The third and longest day of the challenge was on Wednesday. It was made tougher by torrential rain and an unexpected reroute caused by a fire.
