Ohio State Buckeyes to Hold Spring Game Scrimmage

The Ohio State football spring game is upon us. After five weeks of practice, the Buckeyes will play at Ohio Stadium in front of fans in a scrimmage on April 18.

Format of the Spring Game

Ohio State coach Ryan Day said the scrimmage will feature the offense against the defence rather than divide the roster into separate teams, a similar format to last year’s game. In 2025, the Buckeyes’ spring game featured the offense as the Scarlet team and the defence as the Gray team. Scarlet handled Gray in a 50-31 victory using a special scoring format. The offense has won the spring game three of the past four years.

Tackling Rules

The opening series between the first-string offense and first-string defence featured “thud” tackling, in which defenders did not bring ball carriers to the ground. Day revealed that “a drive or two” will feature thud tackling in this year’s spring game, with full tackling the rest of the game − except the quarterbacks, Day added.

How to Watch

The Ohio State spring game will be available to watch on Big Ten Network. BTN is featured on select TV and streaming providers such as Fubo. BTN is also available on Fox’s direct-to-consumer service Fox One, which starts at $19.99 per month.

The Buckeyes will take to Ohio Stadium on April 18 for the scrimmage.
