NJ Transit Plans for NBA Finals Game 6 and World Cup Match

NJ Transit is preparing for a busy day as a possible NBA Finals Game 6 coincides with a World Cup match. Despite the events occurring on the same day, NJ Transit has stated that a nearby PATH train station will ensure smooth travel for riders.

Navigating the Dual Events

The potential Game 6 and the France vs Senegal World Cup match are both slated for June 16. The football match is scheduled to kick off at 3 p.m. at MetLife Stadium.

To accommodate football fans, NJ Transit will operate dedicated World Cup trains. These trains will run westbound from Penn Station New York between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Eastbound NJ Transit trains will continue to serve Penn Station New York until approximately 5:30 p.m., when the match is expected to conclude.

Changes to Eastbound Services

After 5:30 p.m., eastbound trains will terminate at either Newark Penn Station or Newark Broad Street Station. From there, passengers can use PATH or Newark Light Rail to reach Hoboken and, ultimately, the PATH 33rd Street Station. According to NJ Transit, PATH will provide this onward transport at no additional cost.

Knicks fans heading into Manhattan for the 8:30 p.m. game may need to transfer via Newark and use the PATH to reach the city.

Once the eastbound trains have discharged passengers, they will be reassigned as dedicated World Cup trains for the next three hours. These trains will transport up to 40,000 fans back to Penn Station New York.

Advice for Knicks Fans

Normal eastbound rail services are expected to resume around 8:30 p.m., roughly three hours after the World Cup match finishes. NJ Transit advises Knicks fans travelling to Game 6 to arrive at Madison Square Garden before 5 p.m., or to be prepared to change trains in Newark.

After the Knicks game, regular rail services from Penn Station New York to New Jersey will be available on all lines. Knicks fans will not need to use PATH to return to New Jersey after the game.

NJ Transit has outlined these plans to ensure that fans attending both the World Cup match and the potential NBA Finals Game 6 can travel with minimal disruption.
