NHL Playoffs: Canadiens Lead Lightning, Flyers Advance

The Stanley Cup playoffs are heating up as first-round series approach their conclusion.

Canadiens Edge Lightning in Tight Game

The Montreal Canadiens defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 in a game that went down to the wire. Every game between the Canadiens and Lightning has been a nailbiter. Brendan Gallagher scored early in the first period to give Montreal the lead.

Dominic James answered for Tampa Bay in the second period, but Kirby Dach put the Canadiens back in front just seconds later. Jake Guentzel then scored late in the second period, tying the game.

Alexandre Texier scored in the third period, giving Montreal the lead, and Tampa Bay couldn’t respond. The Canadiens now lead the series 3-2 and will look to close it out on Friday.

Flyers Clinch Series Victory Over Penguins

The Philadelphia Flyers are moving on after a defensive battle, defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins 1-0 in overtime. There was no shortage of drama between the in-state rivals. Neither team found the back of the net in the first 60 minutes.

The defensive battle continued into overtime. Pittsburgh’s Anthony Mantha had a close shot, but the Flyers prevented the Penguins from scoring off of a deflection.

Cam York scored late in overtime to win it for Philadelphia. This marks the Flyers’ first playoff series win since 2020. The Flyers won the series 4-2.
