Nebraska Basketball Eyes Sweet 16 Spot Against Vanderbilt

The Nebraska men’s basketball program is looking to reach the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time in school history. The fourth-seeded Huskers will face fifth-seeded Vanderbilt on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 7:45 p.m. (CT), with the game broadcast on TNT and the Huskers Radio Network. It is also available on NCAA March Madness Live and HBO Max.

Huskers Advance After Dominating Troy

Nebraska secured an impressive 76-47 victory over Troy in the NCAA First Round on Thursday. Pryce Sandfort led the Huskers with 23 points, including 17 in the first half. Sandfort tied a school postseason record with seven 3-pointers. Jamarques Lawrence and Braden Frager each contributed 13 points, while Rienk Mast added 11 points.

The Husker defence limited Troy to its second-lowest point total of the season. They held the Trojans to 28.3 percent shooting and converted 17 turnovers into 17 points. The 47 points allowed and 28.3 percent shooting were both season bests for the Huskers defence. Nebraska has now held 13 opponents this season to 60 points or less.

The win marked Nebraska’s first-ever NCAA Tournament victory. It also secured the 27th win of the season, breaking the single-season win record that had stood since the 1990-91 season.

Vanderbilt’s High-Scoring Offence

The Huskers now face a high-powered Vanderbilt team, which defeated McNeese 78-68 on Thursday. Tyler Tanner scored 26 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out five assists in the victory. The Commodores shot 51 percent from the field and had four players score in double figures.

  • Vanderbilt averages 86.1 points per game.
  • They rank in the top 20 nationally in scoring offence.

An Alumni Association pregame event will be held at Social Capital in Oklahoma City on Saturday. The event opens at 11 a.m. and is free to the public. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

A team send-off is scheduled for 5:40 p.m. at the Skirvin Hotel.

With a win, the Huskers would advance to the next round.
