The transfer portal for men’s basketball opened on April 7 and is set to remain open for two weeks, closing on April 21. Just 40 minutes after Michigan’s national championship win over UConn, the portal was open. Within 75 hours, over 2,000 Division I men’s basketball players had entered the portal.
After approximately 2,100 players entered the portal in 2024 and nearly 2,700 players the previous year, most coaches are expecting over 3,000 entrants this season. Earlier this year, the NCAA implemented rule changes affecting the transfer portal window in all sports.
Top Players in the Transfer Portal
Milan Momcilovic, formerly of Iowa State, has entered both the NBA draft and the transfer portal. He averaged 16.9 points and 3.1 rebounds. Momcilovic was ranked first in 3-point percentage (48.7%) and fifth in 3-pointers made this past season.
Another player in the portal is Bidunga, transferring from Kansas to Louisville. He improved from averaging 5.9 points and 5.4 rebounds to 13.3 points and 9.0 rebounds. He also added 2.6 blocks per game, establishing himself as an elite post defender.
