Mookie Betts Defends Shohei Ohtani Amidst Fan Concerns

Los Angeles Dodgers star Mookie Betts has responded to questions from fans about Shohei Ohtani’s offensive performance. Despite Ohtani’s pitching, some fans have questioned his hitting this season. Betts addressed these concerns on Bleacher Report’s On Base.

Betts Highlights Ohtani’s Overall Impact

Betts explained why he disagrees with those asking “what’s wrong” with Ohtani. He said, “If he doesn’t get a hit or maybe has a couple bad games, it’s like, ‘Well what’s wrong with Shohei?'”

Betts added, “Well, I mean, he did just go seven innings, two hits, he does have a 0.7 ERA. You forget all the other ways that he really affects the game.”

Ohtani’s current stats include seven home runs and 24 RBI. He is slashing .265/.392/.458 this season. While his offensive numbers might not be at the level fans expect, his pitching has been exceptional.

Ohtani’s Pitching Prowess

Ohtani has recorded a 0.82 ERA and a 0.82 WHIP. He also has 50 strikeouts. He has allowed just six runs in seven starts.

If Ohtani maintains this level of pitching, he could be in contention for his first Cy Young award.

Ohtani’s performance demonstrates his value extends beyond just hitting.
