MLB Reporter Tricia Whitaker Hit by Line Drive During Game

MLB reporter Tricia Whitaker might consider investing in some catcher’s gear after a recent incident at a Baltimore Orioles game.

Whitaker, who was covering the Orioles’ game against the Detroit Tigers for Apple TV, was struck on the forearm by a line drive off the bat of Adley Rutschman.

She shared photos on X showing her being attended to by the Orioles’ medical staff, assuring everyone that she was fine but sporting an ice pack and a wrap on her arm.

Whitaker’s Close Encounter

Whitaker humorously commented on the incident, acknowledging the velocity of the hit.

“In case anyone was wondering — Adley Rutschman’s exit velo is still elite. My forearm is proof,” she wrote. “Found out what it feels like to be the injury update instead of reporting it. 10-day IL, forearm discomfort.”

She also expressed her gratitude to the Orioles’ medical staff for their prompt care, saying, “(PS I’m fine. Thanks to the Oriole’s medical staff for the wrapping of my arm and ice all game!)”

Game Postponement and Recovery

Whitaker had some additional time to recover, as Saturday’s game between the Orioles and Tigers was postponed due to rain.

The rain has moved through the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions of the U.S. on top of the Memorial Day weekend.

In the game on Friday, Baltimore secured a 7-4 victory. Rutschman went 2-for-5 with a double and the line drive that hit Whitaker.

Whitaker’s Indy 500 Appearance

Despite the painful encounter, Whitaker appeared to be in good spirits.

She posted her Indy 500 outfit on her Instagram account.

Now, she only has to be concerned about bouncing tires.
