McLean Shines as Mets Edge Diamondbacks in 10th Inning Thriller

Nolan McLean produced his second quality start against Arizona, allowing one earned run and striking out six.

The New York Mets rallied in the 10th inning to secure a 3-1 win against the Diamondbacks.

McLean’s Strong Outing

McLean pitched six innings, exiting the game with the score tied at 1-1. He had struggled in his previous two starts, pitching a combined nine innings.

Following a tough outing against the Angels where he only lasted four innings, McLean was determined to improve. He threw 63 strikes out of 100 pitches.

McLean relied on his sinker, sweeper and four-seamer, generating nine whiffs. His fastball peaked at 97.7 mph.

Manager Carlos Mendoza praised McLean’s performance, noting that he “found a way to give us six innings.”

Bullpen Shuts Down Arizona

The Mets bullpen, consisting of Luke Weaver, Brooks Raley, Devin Williams, and Tobias Myers, combined for four scoreless innings. Myers earned his first career save, striking out two of the three batters he faced.

Vientos Sparks the Offence

Mark Vientos provided the offensive spark for New York, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs, one home run and one run scored. He broke the 1-1 tie with a leadoff double in the 10th inning.

Carson Benge followed up with a ground-rule double. This gave Myers the breathing room needed to close out the game.

Vientos said he felt good and just aimed to “see ball, hit ball.” He added, “I put a good swing on it, and it found some grass.”

McLean had not thrown more than five innings since tossing 6 2/3 innings against Minnesota on April 21, and he has not earned a win since April 3 in San Francisco.

Those heroics were set up by the stellar six innings from McLean.
