Matt Fitzpatrick beat Scottie Scheffler in a play-off to win the RBC Heritage in South Carolina.
Fitzpatrick overcame a bogey five on the 18th to birdie the same hole in the play-off, claiming his second PGA Tour title in a month.
Fitzpatrick Secures Victory After Late Setback
Fitzpatrick had a three-shot lead over Scottie Scheffler at the start of the final round. He attempted to follow up his victory at the Valspar Championship in March.
The former US Open champion played his first 17 holes in two under par without dropping a shot. Scheffler closed the gap to one by the time they stood together on the 18th tee.
Both players failed to find the green in two at the last. Scheffler made it up and down for par to complete a four-under round of 67, while Fitzpatrick’s poor chip led to his first bogey of the day.
Fitzpatrick hit a superb approach on the first play-off hole, before nervelessly sinking his birdie putt to win.
Scheffler’s Runner-Up Finish
Scheffler had to be content with a second consecutive second-place finish. He finished as runner-up to Rory McIlroy at last week’s Masters.
Kim Claims Third Place
Si-woo Kim of South Korea shot a final-round 68 to finish third on 16 under par. He was two shots behind Fitzpatrick and Scheffler.
Fitzpatrick’s Hot Streak Continues
This latest victory continues Fitzpatrick’s hot streak of form, having also finished second at last month’s Players Championship.
The final leaderboard:
- -18 Fitzpatrick (Eng), Scheffler (US)
- -16 Kim (Kor)
- -13 Morikawa (US), English (US), Aberg (Swe)
- -12 Cauley (US)
Fitzpatrick, 31, won on the first play-off hole.
