Masters Tournament: Which Golfers Have Won Back-to-Back Titles?

The Masters Championship at Augusta National has seen some incredible feats over the years. Among the most impressive is winning the title in consecutive years. Only a select few have managed to defend their title and claim back-to-back victories at the prestigious tournament.

The Elite Group of Back-to-Back Champions

Three players have successfully defended their Masters title with wins in successive years. England’s Nick Faldo is among this elite group, having won in 1989 and 1990. Tiger Woods also achieved back-to-back wins in 2001 and 2002.

Nicklaus’s Record and Multiple Winners

Jack Nicklaus holds the record for the most Masters Championship wins with six titles. He won the title in three different decades, claiming the green jacket in 1963, 1965, 1966, 1972, 1975 and 1986. Nicklaus is one of only three players to have successfully defended the title with wins in back-to-back years.

Other Notable Masters Champions

Tiger Woods is the tournament’s second-most successful player with five wins. Arnold Palmer won four titles between 1958 and 1964. Jimmy Demaret, Sam Snead, Gary Player and Phil Mickelson are all three-time Masters winners.

Two-Time Masters Winners

Ten other players have won the title twice. Scottie Scheffler is among that number following wins in 2022 and 2025.

Jack Nicklaus was part of the group to play the opening tee shots at the 2026 Masters, 40 years on from the last of his six titles.
