Kirby Seeks Redemption on the Mound
George Kirby will be pitching for the Mariners. He is aiming to bounce back following a rough outing against the Padres the previous week. While Kirby has maintained a solid 3.54 FIP this year, his strikeout rate is at a career-low, and his groundball rate is at a career-high. The Padres managed to hit a couple of home runs against him last week. Kirby will be focusing on keeping the Royals’ hits on the ground today.
Crawford Remains at Shortstop
J.P. Crawford is leading off and continuing to play shortstop. Despite press about moving him to third base, he seems not quite ready for the switch. Colt Emerson is playing third and batting ninth.
Pereda Behind the Plate
Jhonny Pereda will be starting as catcher. The last time he played, he hit his first major league home run. He already has five caught stealings this year on defence.
