Man City Edge Closer to WSL Title with Win Over Brighton

Manchester City are closing in on their first Women’s Super League title since 2015-16 after their recent match against Brighton. A victory puts them within touching distance of the top-flight crown. The Opta supercomputer predicted City to edge closer to the WSL crown, assigning Andree Jeglertz’s side a win probability of 72.2%.

City’s Dominant Record Against Brighton

Brighton’s chances of victory were rated at just 12.2%. Brighton have lost 12 of their 14 WSL games against Manchester City. The exceptions were a 0-0 draw in September 2020 and a 1-0 win in November 2023.

City have won all six of their top-flight away games against Brighton by an aggregate score of 27-4. City have won 16 of their last 18 league games, drawing one and losing one. They have won each of their last 17 matches when taking the lead at any stage.

Miedema Eyes WSL History

Vivianne Miedema could make history. She is just three goals away from becoming the first player in WSL history to score 100 goals.

  • Miedema has 16 goal involvements against Brighton in the top flight (eight goals, eight assists).
  • Her own tally of 19 against Bristol City is the only instance of a player recording more goal involvements against one side in the competition.

Manchester City signed off for the international break with a 3-0 thrashing against rivals Manchester United. Kiko Seike’s second-half strike helped Brighton down Leicester City.

Manchester City boast a nine-point buffer at the top of the WSL over Chelsea. They need just two more wins to lift the title for the first time since 2015-16.
