Pep Guardiola has cancelled a Manchester City training session. This occurred before their Champions League match against Real Madrid.
Guardiola Explains Training Decision
Guardiola explained his decision at a press conference. He stated, “We will be training tomorrow.”
He then elaborated on the reasons behind cancelling Monday’s training. “We were in Madrid, we arrived at the hotel late, and it was difficult to sleep. We returned to Manchester in the morning. We didn’t train, and the next day we were already leaving for London. We came back yesterday at 2.30 in the morning. Today we simply have recovery.”
Guardiola added, “You can’t do anything. We’ll train tomorrow.”
He said, “It’s not like we’ll go out to training and be better prepared for the match against Real.”
The manager stated, “Today, in modern football, training doesn’t make you much better. You simply don’t have time for training. I’ve done this 2-3 times this season. This isn’t the first time.”
Precedent for Skipping Training
Guardiola has cancelled training sessions before. This includes before matches against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League and Fulham in the Premier League.
The Upcoming Match
Manchester City are scheduled to play Real Madrid. The match is a Champions League tie. Man City trail 0-3 from the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu.
